Event Description

Join us for a FREE screening of Paywall: the business of scholarship at ACMI X on Wednesday 24 October at 6pm. Ticket reservations are essential.

Paywall: the business of scholarship is a documentary which focuses on the need for open access to research and science, questions the rationale behind the $25.2 billion a year that flows into for-profit academic publishers, examines the 35-40% profit margin associated with the top academic publisher Elsevier and looks at how that profit margin is often greater than some of the most profitable tech companies like Apple, Facebook and Google.

Program:

6pm: Doors open, drinks and nibbles

6.50pm: Introductions

7pm: Film begins (104 minute run time)

8.45pm: Drinks

9.15pm: Close

Getting there:

ACMI X is located on Level 4 at the Australian Ballet Centre on Kavanagh St, Southbank.

The street address is a bit tricky, but there is a ramp behind the Arts centre (with the spire) over to level 4 and directly into the venue - it is much easier to get there that way if coming from the city. Alternatively, you can enter via Kavanagh St.

ACMI X is wheelchair accessible, including bathrooms in the Ballet Centre.

APO Forum 2018:

This event is the prelude to the APO Forum 2018 on 25 October.
