Event Description

Following up last year’s successful Open Access (OA) Week – the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), will host a conference "China Open Access Week 2013" in Beijing on October 21 - 23, 2013.

The conference will focus on national developments in open access institutional repositories (IR) and open access publishing, as well as on synergies within the open data and open educational resources movements.

China Open Access Week 2013 will have three main events:

  • Open Repository Day – which will introduce the results of national surveys conducted by China IR Implementation Group, including the status of China IRs, users’ demands, and Chinese journals self-archiving policies. In addition, some key issues will be discussed, such as the evaluation of IRs, encouraging depositing in IRs, IR international trends, and IR interoperability, etc. The target audience is directors of research and educational institutes, library directors, and IR managers.
  • OA Publishing Day – which will highlight international and national OA journals strategies and practices. Maurice Kwong (Executive Vice president, Springer Asia) will be one of the speakers discussing the open access challenges for Chinese research. In addition, new Article Level Metrics and OA publishing support policies will be introduced. The target audience is Chinese journal publishers, policy-makers, research directors and researchers.
  • OA Resources Day – which  will discuss synergies within open access, open data and the open educational resources movements, etc. The target audience is librarians and researchers.
