Hi All
At the outset a huge apology for my lack of response.Have been out of commission so to speak for the past few days so haven't had anytime to really apply myself to this task of facilitating the discussion. That said though I must confess that it was actually my colleague Derek Moore who alerted me to Open access week and I subsequently per chance happened upon this site in my attempt to garner more knowledge. Given the euphoria around the World Cup and with South Africa in the limelight thought it fitting that we have a presence here too ;-)hence the immediate creation of the group upon my visit here ...so no real kudu's to me.Derek's the driving force:-)

Thus it will be Derek who will leading the charge ;) and I will abdicate the role of group facilitator and humble submit to update the logo asap.

Anyway looking forward to lots of sharing and learning.
Happy posting everyone and over to Derek:-)

Met Derek (and Tessa) from Wits at lunchtime yesterday. Good to share our experiences and perspectives. He suggested that I send the group a poster I designed back in 2007 which promotes benefits of OA. The attached jpg can be stretched to A2 or A1 - if you've got budget for printing.. Not sure whether the upload has worked. OAFinal.jpg We also figured that collectively we could come up with more resources for sharing amongst the group.

Hi Susan. What does OASPA stand for? Is there a link to the programme?
Thanks

Correction to my last post: OASPA is in August. I'll also be in Sweden for an Open Access discussion in October. Again... input welcome as below. Thanks!

I'll be giving a talk about OA in Africa at the OASPA conference in October. If anyone here has useful insights about how OA is different in Africa/developing countries compared with developed countries, I'd appreciate any input!

Please also encourage your colleagues to join this group .... I have already posted an invite via the irtalk mailing list. The more the better!

If you are available on Tuesday afternoon, we might be able to pop in. Particularly interested in seeing what Western Cape Higher Ed institutions are doing regarding elearning.

Thanks for starting the group Fatima. It's great to find others who are looking to use OA week to make some impact on campus. At UWC, we'll be officially launching the Research Repository (currently in pilot phase).
