The Open Textbook Movement for post-secondary students and instructors is gaining momentum in prominence. In Canada, the Provinces of British Columbia and Manitoba have advocated for Open Textbook and the BC Campus Open Educational Resources (OER) program funded by the British Columbia provincial government's Ministry of Advanced Education is leading the movement. This presentation will introduce benefits of Open Textbooks using examples from the University of Prince Edward Island. Because quality open textbooks will be used by other universities and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), there are potential educational, as well as marketing, opportunities. Join this presentation where we can discuss how to effectively disseminate knowledge from Cape Breton University.
