Event Description

The goal of the Open Library Badge (OLB) initiative is to incentivize and reward libraries that pursue the concept of openness. The OLB is also intended to make the relevant activities and services of libraries visible.

Aimed both at the scientific community and at library patrons, the badge is an award for a library's commitment to greater openness in science and society. The Open Library Badge was initiated in 2016 and has since been awarded to a total of 9 libraries.

The implementation of the OLB criteria by these libraries has been documented on the Open Library Badge website in the form of best-practice examples, to stimulate and motivate other libraries.

With the Open Library Badge 2020, the criteria have been revised and expanded from 10 to 15 categories. In particular, public libraries and their services in the field of openness are now also given greater consideration.

The Open Library Badge team is looking forward to receiving applications from institutions during Open Access Week 2019 - and beyond!
